It Starts with the Soil
Everything we do is rooted in relationship, with the land, with the people, and with the seeds we carry. Grown in Haiti is not just a project. It is a living practice of renewal.
Our Mission
To regenerate Haiti’s ecosystems by restoring forests, strengthening local food systems, and empowering land stewards with knowledge, seeds, and solidarity. We do this through land-based education, seed sharing, and long-term community relationships that build resilience from the ground up.
Our Vision
We envision a Haiti where native trees thrive, food grows abundantly, and local people lead the way in restoring balance with nature. A Haiti where regeneration is not just a method but a way of life.
The vision does not stop here. To see where the work is going next, visit Where We Are Headed.
From One Tree to a Movement
Grown in Haiti began in 2014 in the mountains of Cap Rouge. The land had been stripped bare, erosion was widespread, and trees were disappearing fast. We did not wait for external funding or foreign solutions. With native seeds, cuttings, and a two-wheel motorcycle, we started small. One tree, one seedling, one plot at a time.
What began as a personal effort quickly grew. Neighbors started planting. Children helped spread mulch. Farmers shared what little they had. Over time, the work evolved into a movement. We now run a nursery capable of producing approximately 5,000 healthy saplings annually and have planted and distributed over 25,000 trees since our founding. We host workshops that connect traditional farming wisdom with regenerative systems that actually work for Haiti's diverse landscapes.
Today, the organization is evolving from a founder-driven restoration effort into a community-anchored regenerative institution, building the monitoring capacity, field research systems, and infrastructure needed to carry this work into the next generation. In 2025 that work was recognized on the global stage when Sidney-Max Etienne was selected as a Finalist at the Falling Walls Science Summit in Berlin, presenting Grown in Haiti's model to an international community of scientists and leaders committed to breakthrough solutions for the world's most pressing challenges.
What Guides Us
-

Regeneration is cyclical
We work with nature’s patterns, not against them.
-

Seeds are memory
Sharing seeds means sharing legacy, resilience, and future food.
-

Knowledge should be shared
We teach, learn, and grow alongside those who care for the land.
-

Without community, there is no sustainability
The work must be rooted in local hands.
